The training

Urban Pedal Pro level 1 cycling takes place in the playground with year five children during the school day, the aim is to introduce them to the basic skills needed to begin cycling. We use games and techniques on simulated roads in the playground to help with control and awareness whilst cycling. The training is in small groups over 4 or 5 days – one hour each day with experienced professional tutors. By the end of the week your child will have improved cycling skills and awareness of other road users including some knowledge of the Highway Code.

Keeping Safe

Children will be asked to wear a cycle helmet during the training which can be borrowed from the tutors, but their own helmet will fit better, they are also told about the importance of wearing bright colours and reflective or floresent strips; to make them more visable to other road users, please enforce this message at home.

We do not teach children how to ride a bike, so it is important they can cycle without help before enrolling on the course, It's also important for their safety to use a bicycle in a roadworthy condition, please check out the information on this site and find out how to maintain a bike safely.

At the end of the course

UPP/1 will give your child a valuable introduction to cycling, but  this training takes place in the playground away from traffic, we strongly recommend adult supervision whilst cycling by using quiet roads where they can show you what they’ve learnt.  There will be an ongoing assessment  during the course and all participants receive a "Certificate of Completion", which informs you of their progress in aspects of cycling.

If you want them to go further and progress to UPP/2 on the road training please checkout UPP/2 website…
