UPP 1 Cyclist training is for those of you who can already cycle without help, to start the training you will need a roadworthy bike,  that's a bike that has working brakes and firm pumped up tyres,  It doesn’t matter if your bike is new or old,  it must be safe to ride, you  need a red reflector fitted  on the back, which is a requirement  by law.  An other way to stay safe is to wear a cycle helmet; motorcyclists use a crash helmet, it makes sense for cyclists to use a cycle helmet and always  wear bright colours with floresent or reflective strips to help you to be seen by other road users.

UPP/1 training is in your School playground, you will have an hour of cycling every day for 4 or 5 days and will learn the things you need to help you become a confident cyclist, things like signaling, road positioning,  overtaking safely, you will play lots of cycling games which help with bike control and road awarness, your cycling skills will be assessed during the week to see how well you're doing, be sure to read the magazine and booklet we give you; so you can answer  the high-way code questions on the website.

Complete UPP/1 and you will receive a certificate explaining exactly what stage you have reached, level /1 is the first step to becoming a safer cyclist, the training and information on the course will give you the basic skills needed for the next stage which is cycling on the road. It's important to remember that  level1 training is in the playground away from traffic and really important that you are supervised before starting to cycle on quiet roads, where you can show a responsible adult what you have learnt.

When you receive your UPP certificate you will be automatically  entered into the prize draw to win a cycle helmet; we give 3 cycle helmets away each year, 1 at the end of every term, to encourage as many of you as possible to use a helmet and stay safe.  Don't forget to use your UPP number in the corner of your certificate to access the quiz and  test your high-way code knowledge.

If  you have enjoyed level 1 and want to progress to level 2 on the  road training,  click the icon for UPP/2 and find out more.
